06.05.11 - Stalking the Fisherman
At the end of another bizarre day I decided to take the long way home, hoping to recharge my batteries and get rid of the pent up adrenaline that had built up. Within seconds of entering Boultham Mere Nature Reserve my decision was rewarded, when I rounded a corner and came face to face with a fox barely 20 feet away. We had a moment's eye contact, but as I grabbed for the camera he disappeared into the undergrowth. Then, as I approached a small pond, I spotted a grey heron striding into the water, and incredibly he hadn't seen me. I hid behind some trees and watched him through the gaps for at least 20 minutes, before he finally spooked and took off. I can't decide which is my favourite shot of the heron, they are similar, but slightly different, without any being perfect, so I've added a selection to a gallery here;
The white specks on the water surface are seed heads, a mixture of dandelions, rushes and tree blossom. The air was full of it, like gentle snow falling, but the camera didn't pick it up.
