22.03.17 - Worsdell's Mill

This old ruined windmill is on the edge of the village of Waddington, a few miles south of Lincoln. It was built in 1820 to replace a much older post mill, that had been demolished that year on the same site. This mill was then itself demolished in 1940. I can't find any information about this, but I suspect it was demolished because it was a hazard to aircraft coming in to land at the nearby RAF Waddington, which was one of the most active bomber bases during WW2. The airfield is still active, but only for early warning aircraft carrying sophisticated radar equipment.
