23.09.14 - Bye Bye Vera

Firstly this is a composite image, I shot the background with a wide angle lens and then had a longer lens for the aircraft so I could get some close-ups as they flew over. But it gives an accurate impression of this unique and never to be repeated flypast. For the last month the Canadian Lancaster bomber "Vera" has been in the UK, meaning that the only two flying Lancasters in the world have been in our skies. Vera set off for Canada yesterday morning, escorted by "Thumper" the British Lancaster, and flanked by 2 Spitfires and 2 Hurricanes of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. It was a wonderful moment and an absolute pleasure to have seen it. It is highly unlikely ever to happen again, but we live in hope.
