johnloguk > 2.6.09 - Look what they did to my photos :)

Apologies for a very self indulgent Daily, but I was so excited to get these photos today I just had to share them. I think I've said before that I don't seem to get "ordinary" photographic assignments like babies and weddings, but I do get my photos on the side of big trucks! I didn't take these photos, I've not seen the truck in the flesh yet, but I hope to catch up with it soon.
johnloguk > 2.8.09 - After the Storm (2 shot photomerge panorama)

Well it rained, and rained, and rained, but then this happened! I could have taken a similar shot from my window, the whole sky was a mass of changing colour, but I'm glad I went for a drive to get this view. It is only a mile away, if that, the Cathedral is on the left and the small country lane on the right. The lane was flooded in places, and that gave a very different perspective on the sunset, as you can see here http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#608061724_cB9cS

This was taken from almost exactly the same spot as this http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/7240041_kZdsG#604566139_X7ehW What a difference a few days make!
johnloguk > 23.5.09 - Home Planet

I've made a few planets over the last year, but none for a while. I think every photographer should try at least one, it brings out the megalomaniac in you :) This is from the 4 shot panorama I made the other day, an extended version of my Daily from 2 days ago.

For a great tutorial on how to make your own planet go to; http://photojojo.com/content/tutorials/create-your-own-panorama-planets/

I've had the kids over today so not had time to do much else. I'll try to play catch up again on the Dailies tomorrow. Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my pics over the last couple of days, they are most appreciated.
johnloguk > 18.2.09 - Short Cut

I'd hate anyone to think that Lincoln was just beautiful old historic buildings, we have some dirty old back alleyways too! Joking apart, these hidden back-ways probably have a fascinating history too, if only someone would research them, maybe a photographic project for me one day?

This alley is right in the middle of town, and a popular short cut for anyone trying to avoid the crowds on the High Street. I'm trying to build up a portfolio of these more hidden places, and I was really lucky to catch this guy rushing through in his lunch hour. Then indecision took hold of me again. The original image wasn't as punchy as I'd hoped, so I played around a bit in PP, then decided to put them all together like this. I quite like the effect, I hope you do too :)

The original straight out of camera is on the left. Centre is my watercolour treatment. On the right is a B&W conversion applied over the watercolour.

Check the "map this" feature if you want to see where this is
johnloguk > 5.10.08 Swanholme Lakes Sunset

No big colours in the sky last night but it was still a beautiful sunset. I went down to Hartsholme Park and Swanholme Lakes hoping to get some Autumn colour in the late afternoon light, and got this instead. Water literally adds another dimension to sunsets, with the cool breeze creating some nice ripples to add to the reflections. There aren't many places with a clear view across the Lakes, but I think the trees and foliage add something to this shot anyway. It is hard to believe that this place is in the middle of a City. At dusk the birdsong almost drowns out the noise of distant traffic. There were quite a few people around, walking the dog, jogging, or just taking in the quietness at the end of the day.

My internet connection was hopeless over the weekend, so I hardly got to comment on the Dailies. I'll add some more shots from last night if the connection holds up this morning.

Uploaded some more shots here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#387836374_7zD84
johnloguk > 3.6.09 - Silence is Golden

It's been a long time since I had a sunset for my Daily, I hope it has been worth the wait. I originally went out for a walk along the river and got some nice wildflower shots, but this presented itself on the way home. I don't like having the sun in the frame, it can make the image noisy, fill it with flare and doesn't do wonders for the eyes, but I hope it adds to the image here. This view of Lincoln Cathedral is from the south-east, with the observatory tower of the Castle on the extreme left of the shot. There weren't many clouds in the sky, but there was a low haze that gave this wonderful golden glow. A group of birds flew over at just the right time too.

I've had lousy hay fever the last couple of days, which has made staring at a computer screen pretty painful, so apologies if I didn't comment on your pics. Thanks for all the kind words on my truck pics and postcards, you are a wonderful bunch of people :)
johnloguk > 4.3.09 - Walk

Today is cool and blustery, but last night's rain has gone. I snatched a quick walk round the Arboretum in between appointments this lunchtime, loads of photos of flowers, fountains, dancing waters etc. But this shot of a little boy out walking with his Daddy caught my eye as a bit more special. I added the radial blur filter to draw the eye in a bit more and increase the tunnel effect of the trees.

I'll no doubt add some of the other shots to the Arboretum gallery later, but for now it's back out to work.

But before that - I need to put a few minds to rest about yesterday's Daily from the car. I promise that I was parked at the time, even I don't drive one handed at night through narrow residential streets in the rain while taking photos :)
johnloguk > 12.6.09 - Butterfly

This was actually taken yesterday, but I'm just taking a quick lunch break and wanted to get rid of the pressure to shoot a Daily today. Fridays are always busy, as I'm sure you've heard me say before, and although I usually have my camera with me I don't always get chance to take any shots.

If you want to see more shots like this then check out my gallery of the quarry here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/5158709_C4LBj#561199195_KykEU
johnloguk > 1.8.09 - July

Better late than never :)

I had never previously noticed how much pink and purple dominates July, just another nice side effect of this calendar project http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/8057142_2Tkfp#524865489_gekpy
