johnloguk > 2.10.09 - Trapped

This is an automated message. Apparently John has been spending too much time on the computer lately and the idiot has got himself trapped inside it!
johnloguk > 21.12.08 - Stark Beauty

Unseasonably warm weather yesterday, so I spent most of it outdoors taking photos. Unfortunately Smugmug chose yesterday to keep crashing, so I hardly managed to upload any shots or make many comments. I uploaded some to my Arboretum Gallery here, the late afternoon light was wonderful; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/6049364_a8pPu#440619538_hTHUB

I then went to Lincoln South Common for the actual sunset, which was stunning. This wasn't the most spectacular sunset shot, it was pretty much at the end of the "show", but I really like the composition in this one.

Update, more sunsets from the South Common last night are now uploaded; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#440961314_c8Jgr
johnloguk > 6.5.09 - Watcher on the Wall

You've seen this guy before, but not like this. On a sunny day he looks quite friendly, but today this reflection caught my eye as I walked past and I thought he looked pretty menacing. I thought there was an Orwellian quality to this, and the B&W adds to the bleakness. And like those old wartime recruitment posters his eyes seem to follow you around, very "Big Brother", have a nice day :)

Late edit; the face is on the wall of an Art Centre
johnloguk > 28.9.08 - The Sky is Bleeding

I was surprised to wake up to heavy skies and rain this morning, but by mid-afternoon it was clearing up and I went for a run with my mate Andy. We're training for a 10km trail run round Sherwood Forest, and to be honest we both run more than 10km regularly, but the more you train the easier the run is on the day. But I digress...

At about 6.30pm I thought a nice sunset might be developing, but there was no way I thought that it would turn into this! I've seen plenty of great sunsets, but I don't think I've ever seen colour like this before. I had to adjust highlights and shadows a bit to bring out the vapour trails on the right, which had been blown out slightly in camera, but this is very much what I saw. If you want to see how this developed over 30 minutes go here; http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#382235631_xMuxx
johnloguk > 1.1.09 - Dreamland

They say it is good to face your fears, so here I am starting the year off with another SP (even if I am hiding behind some dreamy PP). I had intended taking a drive and finding somewhere a little wild to go for a walk today, but it is cold and very grey, and with fuel the price it is I decided to go for a walk inside my head instead.

Huge thanks to MB for sending me this beautiful book of her beloved Colorado, I've been entranced by it since it arrived on my doorstep the other day, and it will be a source of pleasure for years to come.

Oh yes, and a very Happy New Year to you all :)
johnloguk > 25.3.09 - "Into the Valley of Death"

Another "Tennyson" image from the weekend, the quote from his poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" sums up how I felt at times, being a landscape photographer taking images like this one for the actors' portfolios, but it was a wonderful experience and great fun, surrounded by very talented people. Don't forget to check out my previous Daily, which comes from the same shoot. Details of the project can be found here; http://www.theladyofshalott.co.uk/index.html More can be revealed when the film is launched in late May.

The really cool thing about this shot is that the glasses and pipe belonged to Tennyson himself.

Thanks for your patience with me on the Dailies over the last few days, I'll try and do some catching up now :)
johnloguk > 31.3.09 - March

The latest in my series of monthly collages. I'm going to try to do a whole year in the same style, using flowers/plants from each month, maybe make a calendar at the end. So far got November, January, February and March. This was the hardest to make because there are now so many flowers to choose from! It didn't help that my computer crashed just as I was saving it, and so I had to do it all over again from scratch!

Is it really April tomorrow?
johnloguk > 21.2.09 - Spring?

It is a stunning Springlike day here today, I've been out this morning in just a shirt and trousers, and I was still hot! After doing my usual Saturday chores this morning I decided to seek out some snowdrops for my Daily. I found so many that I couldn't decide how to shoot them! Should I try to get artistic with a single flower and spectacular bokeh? Stand back and capture a white carpet? In the end I went for the middle ground, and threw in some yellow for good measure. Singalong with me....."it's a beautiful day, don't let it fade away" :)
johnloguk > 20.3.09 - Hill Farm

Just a B&W conversion on one of the photos from last weekend, with a slight vignette added to give the impression of looking into the past. It's 9.30pm here now and I've not had chance to check out the Dailies yet, but I'll try now. Another manic Friday out of the way, and a two day photo shoot to look forward to over the weekend, wish me luck :)
