johnloguk > 29.6.08 - A Heath Spotted Orchid. Back to Whisby Nature Park today for my Daily, the same place that Steve and I visited last Thursday. It was still pretty windy, which made wildflower photography entertaining to say the least, but it stayed dry until I got home. I have just created a gallery for other shots from today, and I will add to it on subsequent visits to the Park, you can find it here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5283916_hXRBX/1/321977522_aT4kT#321977522_aT4kT

I don't know enough about wildflowers to know how widespread these beautiful orchids are. I have seen them before, but this is one of the best specimens to date. This is only a bog standard 200mm lens, not a serious macro, so I'm really pleased with the result.

I've not had chance to look through the Dailies yet today, so now I'm going to spend a little while catching up :)
johnloguk > 28.4.08 - Elemental Power. It's been a long time since I had a sunset as my DP, but it is weird how similar this one is to the last one. I've substituted a distant power station for the Cathedral, but the golden drama in the sky is almost identical. It has been another day of heavy April showers, and these always seem to give great sunsets. It was very difficult to get the lighting in this image anything like the real thing, the contrast between light and shade was so huge, but I'm happy with this now. The power station is about 15 miles away, and it was under a big storm cloud making it completely dark. There was rain between me and it, but beyond the station was brilliant sunshine. When you compare the power of humans in the form of the power station, with the power of nature in the form of sunshine and storms, there is only one winner!
johnloguk > 3.10.09 - Ghost in the Machine

Ghostly goings on at Gainsborough Old Hall. I've had this idea ever since I found out that this was called the "ghost corridor", so while I was trapped inside the PC I thought I'd have a go at creating this. It is the first time I've experimented with layers in this way, maybe I should have made Lydia even more transparent, but hey I'm sure I'll try this again.

Those of you that haven't already seen my gallery of the Hall might want to check this out; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/History/GAINSBOROUGH-OLD-HALL/9662694_gb4gb#652216254_Fyruu

Thanks for the wonderful response to my silly SP yesterday, it was a lot of fun making that :)
johnloguk > 7.11.09 - Lamplight

Thank-you for the wonderful response to my ghostly collage yesterday, I hope it encourages a few people to try something similar for the first time. The original version of this image was taken at the same time, but I thought it would look better with a "ghost" walking up the steps. Last night I went back and took a few shots with me in them, but they didn't quite look how I wanted, something was missing. I eventually worked out that what was missing was the rain on the flagstones, giving a nice sheen in the lamplight. So I decided to re-work this image as B&W, and added a dark vignette to give a more claustrophobic atmosphere.
johnloguk > 9.5.09 - And the next one please............

It's a veritable rainbow fest over here at the moment. If I hadn't been so busy yesterday I could have photographed about a dozen of them. I wouldn't want anyone to think that we've had a lot of rain lately, we really haven't had much at all, but we have had a lot of short sharp squalls and lots of rainbows. You can see from the road that there isn't much rain, and I literally ran down the road with my camera as the rainbow was fading in front of my eyes.

There is a bigger view of the rainbow here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053630_nJYqk#531831788_mtAru
johnloguk > 28.3.09 - Watching Me Watching You

I had the kids today and until half an hour ago I'd forgotten that I hadn't taken a Daily yet! I toyed with the idea of going out somewhere for a shot, but a nano second later decided against it :)

So you get a silly SP in the bathroom mirror, converted to B&W, solarized and a cyan filter added. It sounds complicated, but it really wasn't. The best thing about the PP is that it covers up the filthy state of the mirror! Joking apart this shot is very "me". Using the door frame as an impromptu tripod because I couldn't be bothered to get it out of the cupboard, and getting much better comp than I could have got from here by using a tripod. I think my tripod might have given up waiting to be used and left me, I've not seen it in quite a while :)
johnloguk > 31.1.09 - A Year on the Dailies :)

Yes I know, this is pic 367, but I posted 2 shots on 1 day. I'll be starting a new gallery tomorrow and seeing where it takes me. These are just a few of the photos that nearly made it to the Dailies, my biggest problem has always been to choose which shot to put in this gallery. I've not quite managed to take a photo every day, and had to resort to the archives every now and again, but I managed a lot more than I thought I would when I started!

Thanks for all the support and friendship over the last 12 months, I learnt so much and tried so many new things, there is always something new to try in photography! I hope that I can meet up with some of you during 2009, now that would be FUN :)
johnloguk > 19.1.09 - Timeless

This is another shot from my walk yesterday, but I was so pleased with the sepia conversion that I had to share it with you in this format. I just love the old tree, I bet it could tell some tales. If you follow the Google Maps feature you will see a very detailed aerial photo, which shows the earthworks of the old mediaeval village around the church.

johnloguk > 24.3.09 - "Tennyson"

I've been given permission to publish a couple of my Tennyson photos from the weekend, which is cool because I'd got a day behind and it allows me to catch up. This is actor Ben Poole as the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It is one of my favourite images from the shoot because it took so long to get right :)
