johnloguk > 9.5.08 - Grace Under Pressure. This isn't a new photo, but it sums up today for me and I've been working on it a bit this evening (cropping and sharpening). It has been another scorcher of a day, at one point my car told me that it was 27 degrees C, and my head is now radiating the heat it absorbed earlier :) But I'm about to tuck into a nice beer, and very soon I'll be human again and looking forward to the weekend. I always feel like this on a Friday night, and this week has been particularly manic. I've worked hard and achieved a lot, but from the outside it probably looks like I've coped really easily. So that's why I feel a bit like a swan on a glorious sunny day. All serene on the outside, but paddling like mad just out of sight!

I forgot to put this link on originally. It is a time lapse video, showing the erection of the face sculpture that I used as a DP a few days ago; http://www.lincolndrillhall.com/sculpture_timelapse/index.html
johnloguk > 22.5.08 - Another day, another place, another family of geese! Work took me out of town today, to the small town of Barton on Humber, about 40 miles north of Lincoln on the Humber Estuary. I managed to snatch a few shots down by the waterfront, including the awesome Humber Bridge, once the longest suspension bridge in the world. There were some lovely old boats in a creek too, but these guys were the stars.

I've put together a gallery for the other shots here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4998379_UecQB/1/299706800_sEzGA#299706800_sEzGA

And this handsome guy almost made it to the Dailies; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4211893_mbfEa#299720820_T67mP-A-LB
johnloguk > 3.5.08 - I thought it was time for another SP :)

I'm still not at all comfortable infront of the camera, but I am looking particularly grumpy here because I've just found that a credit card that someone paid me with this morning has been declined. I now have to go round and see the guy, and hope that it can be sorted out easily and amicably, which I'm sure it can.

I've been experimenting with some of those lovely contrasty B&Ws that Amy does, but I can't get close to her "look". I'm happy with this in other ways though, apart from the fact that I'm in it :)
johnloguk > 22.3.08 - Happy Easter! We actually had some snow showers today, but none of it settled so no snowy DP today. I had to go into town, and on the way back decided to dodge a particularly nasty snow shower by going into the cathedral. I timed it just right for a guided roof tour, and ended up staying for nearly two hours. This isn't my most innovative or quirky shot of the cathedral, but it does show its gothic majesty off best. I can never get my head round the fact that this was all built by hand; no scaffolding, no cranes, no laser range finders, just blood and sweat. I took over 80 photos today(!), so some of them will make it to other galleries when I get chance. I'll probably start a separate gallery for Cathedral interiors, and there were some stunning views from the roof! Happy Easter..........

I've put one of today's efforts here http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4518270_XDZuH#268878026

New Cathedral Gallery now here http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4562724_EH5v6/1/268904689_tgGam#268904689
johnloguk > 24.4.08 - Double Rainbow. What a day I've had, and am still having, soooo busy. Started off in bright sunshine, then got caught in a heavy shower that soaked me literally to the skin! Then the afternoon was hot and sunny, followed by more showers in the early evening. This rainbow shot was taken on one of Lincoln's "rougher" housing estates this evening, about 2 minutes after a guy tried to snatch my bag. Luckily my reflexes held on to it, and I bellowed so loudly at him that he ran off. Then this rainbow appeared and everything was fine in the world again, isn't life strange :)
johnloguk > 26.6.08 - Revenge is sweet :)

Lincolnsteve put me in his Daily, so it's only fair to reciprocate isn't it. We spent the afternoon taking photos round Whisby Nature Park, despite the dodgy weather. I lent him my 55-200mm lens to play with, and show him what he's missing. It was way too windy to get decent close-ups I reckon, but I'm sure we'll both be back down there soon. There were loads of irridescent damsel flies, and I'm yet to get a good shot of one of those.

The light was pretty flat, so I used my trusty "watercolour" effect on this to make it pop a bit. The original is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/4328734_9ZqLR#320502768_rS2JQ-A-LB

I also did a B&W cropped version here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/4333863_ympF9#320501048_mFr8Z-A-LB

and there is another watercolour from a birdwatchers hide here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/4518270_XDZuH#320499659_8P2ca-A-LB

johnloguk > 2.6.08 - If your life is in a spin try to live like a King! Big thanks to Mykey for inspiration this evening. I was running on empty after a few days burning the candle in the middle as well as at both ends. Then a friend asked me to play squash and my batteries were finally flat. I didn't even get on the computer until 11.30 this evening. I had great plans for a quiet night in. I'd bought some nice Cumberland sausages from the local butcher, and was going to have them with my speciality roasted vegetables. But I opted for fish 'n' chips on my way back from squash, washed down with one of those bottles of bubbly that I won. What a life eh :)

I was totally lost for a DP, until I saw Mykey's wonderful offering, and it gave me the idea to make this shot of me living like a King with fish 'n' chips and bubbly! Welcome to my world....
johnloguk > 5.5.08 - The Pollution Planet! Last night I was surfing around different galleries, and came across the Faux Planets that Amy Wilburn had made. I saw a comment I'd made back in February, followed by a suggestion by Amy that I had a go at making my own planets. I'd completely forgotten about this, but last night decided I must give it a try. Then I found out how easy they are, and what fun!! I made about 20 planets in 2 hours, talk about OCD :)

There is a wonderful tutorial linked from Amy's gallery, and I would urge everyone to give it a go. I reckon I can make a planet in less than a minute now, plus a bit of time tidying up the seam (if I can be bothered!). Some turn out surreal, others really funny. I did this one this morning and think it looks very sci-fi, almost like the Nostromo from "Alien". Go on, have a go!

I've got loads more here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4860246_QTSyX#P-1-15
johnloguk > 3.4.08 - Whenever I go into town I have my camera with me and try to have a subject in mind as a possible DP. Today I wanted to take some shots of those beautiful old warehouses and industrial buildings on the left. My real good fortune was to have this double barge come through at just the right time, so I had some ideal foreground for the buildings (it was either that or wait for some swans!). Barges were a common sight on Britain's waterways for hundreds of years, especially around Lincoln, so I thought it would be nice to give it the old antique postcard treatment. It could almost be a timeless image, if it wasn't for the guy texting on his phone anyway!

9.5.08 - Grace Under Pressure.
