johnloguk > 12.6.08 - Bee Orchid. A week ago I promised you an orchid, and here it is :) I just wish I had a proper macro, as this dainty little flower is only a centimetre across. The wind didn't help, and it took a few efforts to get a vaguely sharp one.

I snatched a few minutes on the local nature reserve and old quarry yesterday afternoon, in the middle of a mad day when I didn't finish work until after midnight, hence no chance to post my Daily until now. I like to take time out whenever I can to recharge my batteries, and going for a walk in this beautiful place is the best medicine I know.

I took lots of wildflower shots again, and they can be found in a new gallery here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5158709_C4LBj#312298232_b25z4
johnloguk > 13.4.08 - Industrial Light and Magic! I'll sneak back into my comfort zone soon enough, but for now I'm still trying new things. I didn't realise how difficult it would be to photograph an oil refinery at night, just set it up and make sure the camera is stable I thought. I never realised how much noise and flare I'd get, and most of my shots went straight in the "bin" when I got home. I will definitely re-visit this place, with a bit (lot) more forethought, and my tripod (rucsac on car roof wasn't as stable as I'd thought!). I was lucky to find this spot, as the puddles and drainage ditch add to the whole, even if I did attract the attentions of "security" on more than one occasion, ho-hum.....

And how about this for a "Roswell moment" on the way to photograph the refinery; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#278996146_suZ8S-A-LB
johnloguk > 19.5.08 - After a few days of the bizarre and surreal I thought I needed a DP straight of the camera today to satisfy the purists, and to prove to myself that I could still take "normal" photos :)

Normally I try to get home for lunch if I can, but today I went to the local bakers and took a picnic down to the nature reserve instead. Everything has grown so fast in recent weeks and there is colour where ever you look. I almost missed these beautiful blue flowers though. They are everywhere, but they are tiny, right down in amongst the grass. Each flower is no more than 5mm across and they were very hard to photograph. I ended up on my stomach, shooting sideways through the grass.

Oh and apparently this is Germander Speedwell for the flower buffs amongst you :)
johnloguk > 7.5.08 - Horses Love Sunshine Too! One of my earliest Dailies was a photo of a horse on Lincoln West Common. It was a cold grey winter's day, and the horse needed the coat it was wearing. In contrast, today's Daily was taken this evening in beautiful warm sunshine. The two horses in the background never moved a muscle for the few minutes that I was there. It was as though they were soaking up the sun, much as people do on the beach :)

I spent most of my childhood playing on this Common, so I always like to re-visit. The low sun made the colours so rich this evening, and this fine weather is set to continue for a few days more.

johnloguk > 18.2.08 - Today has been another beautiful day. Hard frost to start, not a cloud in the sky all day, that low mist that characterises clear winter days, and a stunning sunset to finish things off. I often go for a run around sunset, my favourite time of day, and although carrying a camera tends to break up the run it is often worth it. Today was more photos than running, and I might even have a whole gallery for the rest of the shots (here it is http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4363156_BFbUq#256100460 ). But here is today's offering, another take on "fire and ice", reflected sun and reeds in the icy river.
johnloguk > 22.6.08 - A life on the Ocean Waves. I've been meaning to photograph one of these guys for ages. There is a model boat club that meets in Hartsholme Park every Sunday morning, but by the time I got down there this morning this was the only boat left in the water. It is quite impressive, with some wonderful details, but some of the models the guys were packing away looked even more photogenic. I will re-visit these.
johnloguk > 8.6.08 - OUCH! How spikey do you want it? This bee was having to be very careful, one wrong move and he'd get a nasty shock from this very prickly thistle. I went out this morning looking for those rare orchids I mentioned on Friday at the local nature reserve. I couldn't find the orchids but I got loads of other great wildflower shots. I've put those together in a gallery here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5121648_aU8pe#309284120_D9Qkp

I've just noticed that this is 3 days running that I've featured pink flowers, so I'll have to be careful not to get stuck in a rut :)
johnloguk > 14.4.08 - A Spring Carpet. I went for a lunchtime walk today looking for bluebells, but it is still a bit early for them. Luckily the Wood Anemones were in their full glory. I had terrible trouble choosing between this view of the woodland floor, and a photo of a single flower. In the end I went for the carpet, and the single flower is here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4328734_9ZqLR#279433047_QSZ76-A-LB
johnloguk > 23.5.08 - Because it was there! The things we do for a Daily eh :) I've had my usual manic Friday, and it was meant to end with an appointment at 7pm. But the guy rang me to say he was running an hour late, so what was I to do while I was waiting? I could have come home, it wasn't far away, but there wasn't time to cook a meal or do anything much. Then a wild thought came into my mind, "go down to the quarry and have a play on the rocks"! Now I do this quite often, but not usually inbetween work appointments, but what the hell....

I'm afraid I couldn't get far before the timer went off, but I did make it to the top. Getting back down was much harder :)

I'm just a big kid really, and damn proud of it. I wasn't really dressed for rock climbing though, I could have done with some baggier pants!
