johnloguk > 1.8.09 - July

Better late than never :)

I had never previously noticed how much pink and purple dominates July, just another nice side effect of this calendar project http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/8057142_2Tkfp#524865489_gekpy
johnloguk > 14.7.09 - Pretty in Pink

I've shot these tiny little flowers before, I think they are so photogenic. To present them differently this time I've increased the contrast slightly, added an unsharp mask and a dark vignette, I hope you like it.

This, and Damsel Fly, were taken on a photo walk with Jo and Scott from the Lady of Shalott project in Hartsholme Park. If I was being technical I'd say were we exploring the relationship between aperture and depth of field. Being non-technical I'd say we had a lot of fun, and hopefully Jo and Scott learned a bit more about their new DSLRs. Can't wait for our next session, when we'll be exploring dusk/night photography and visiting the odd pub :)
johnloguk > 30.6.09 - June

As Summer draws on it gets harder to choose the wildflowers for these collages. There are no buttercups, daisies, poppies, "fireweed" and a whole host of beautiful flowers. Hopefully they will get a chance in July's collage, but of course they will be even more flowers battling for the collage by then! But I am now half-way through this calendar project, and November was done last year :)

The year so far can be seen here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/8057142_2Tkfp#524865489_gekpy

Late Edit; The background image is a tiny plant called "Speedwell" which covers the ground like a blue mist on the nature reserve near my home. The left centre image is a close-up of one of the individual flowers. By the time I produce the final calendar I hope to have a key to all the images featured
johnloguk > 27.6.09 - Poppies

I was thinking when I took this how poppies have come to symbolise so many different things, good and bad. So I guess this image is whatever you want it to be. Thanks for all the positive comments on my watercolour yesterday, I was really pleased how that turned out.

I wanted to write more but Bruuuuuce is playing Born to Run on the TV at the moment and he needs some help singing it :)
johnloguk > 22.6.09 - Rosebay Willow Herb (Fireweed)

I've never known a plant where the English and American names are so obviously identifiable :)

I was driving along this afternoon and saw a wonderful patch of poppies by the roadside. I stopped and took some shots of them, then noticed these beauties standing on top of the bank. I haven't had time to process many of the shots, but this one stood out on the first run through. The bee was an added bonus, shame I couldn't get him in focus. I know this breaks the "rule" about never shooting even numbers of objects, but what the hell, live dangerously why doncha :)
johnloguk > 4.6.09 - Flowers in a Bubble

My continuing mission to find different ways to view wildflowers! For this one, put the camera on the ground at 18mm, then use the spherize filter to create a bubble :)

Thanks for the comments on my sunset last night, we don't get many like that one.
johnloguk > 30.5.09 - May

Oh boy was it hard to pick the shots for this month's wildflower collage, there are just so many to choose from now, and more by the day. But some just had to be there, the oxide daisy, the wild rose, the buttercups, forget me nots and flag iris. The rhododendrons made the background as they were sufficiently different to most of the rest of the flowers, but I nearly used a bank of oxide daisies and a field of buttercups. This is getting really hard, but I'm enjoying the challenge and will definitely make it through the year, watch this space :)

Thanks for the kind words on yesterdays butterfly shot, they are still everywhere today and look so beautiful in the sunshine.
johnloguk > 22.5.09 - Happy Birthday Little Brother

Today my brother Mike is 50, it doesn't bear thinking about really, how time flies when you're having fun, or just getting old :)

I must find out what these little wildflowers are, does anyone on the Dailies recognise them? They certainly shone brightly, even on a dark and rainy day. I adjusted the levels slightly in Elements and added the vignette to enhance the "light shining in the dark" effect, but this really is how they were. Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my big pano, I was really glad to share that one with you. Hope you all have a great long weekend.

Late Edit; I've just done some checking and I think these could be Stellaria Holostea or Greater Stitchwort
johnloguk > 30.4.09 - April

Continuing my series of monthly collages that I hope to put into a calendar at the end of the year. I shouldn't have been surprised by the explosion of wildflowers and blossom during April, but I was. I can't believe that May is almost here, I think I'm gonna need a bigger collage ;)

This collage was done before my photo walk yesterday, so I've added a selection of those shot to my Hartsholme Park gallery, which includes another collage especially for Carole here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/6221276_jhJTP#524790426_7gTtg
