johnloguk > 25.10.09 - My Place

In almost 2 years on the dailies I think this is the first time I've shown the outside of my flat, albeit a distant view. It is the three windows, set back above the rear of the car on the left, if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm sure you're all looking at the sky not my place! I went out to catch the sunset, but there wasn't any colour in the West, this is the sky in the East!

Last night we put the clocks back and got an extra hour's sleep. The downside is that it is now dark soon after 5pm :(
johnloguk > 23.10.09 - Power

I'm posting early, well early for me, because today is developing into an even more manic Friday than usual. This is a re-working of a sunset shot from Wednesday, just in case I don't get time to take a pic today. Whenever I take this shot, and I know I've taken many similar ones, I always agonise about whether or not to clone out the transmitter tower. I don't like cloning things out because I want to show what is there, and anyway, I like the juxtapositions here.

The church used to be all powerful, communications has arguably become the new religion, but the sun won't lose it's power for a few more billions years!
johnloguk > 13.10.09 - Shangri-la

I was tempted to try another triptych after the response to the one a couple of days ago. This is a re-working of an old colour transparency from one of my trips to Nepal. It was taken in the village of Beding, in the Rowaling Valley. It was a truly magical place, and this glorious sunset was the icing on the cake towards the end of a wonderful expedition. I can't recommend world travel enough, especially to really wild places. We all need to get out of our comfort zones on a regular basis. There is nothing worse than a narrow view of the world. There are so many incredible places out there, more than enough for a lifetime.

My first attempt at a vertical triptych is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Photography/ODDSNENDS/4328734_9ZqLR#679891122_jTPcz
johnloguk > 12.10.09 - The End of Another Beautiful Day

We had a beautiful sunset this evening, but it was a real struggle to photograph it. I was still working, chasing customers who weren't in, and above me I could see this wonderful light show in the sky. But wherever I went I was hemmed in by trees and/or buildings. This was the best I could manage just as the colours were fading.

Thanks for the wonderful comments on yesterday's triptych, especially those of you that found the time to visit my Arboretum gallery as well. I feel so bad when I can't reciprocate with comments of my own, but I'm just so busy all the time at the moment.
johnloguk > 7.10.09 - Different Day, Different Sky

This was taken at almost exactly the same time as yesterday's daily, after an afternoon of low grey clouds. I caught a quick glimpse of colour out of the window and literally ran down to the quarry to see what was developing. It was very fleeting, as the last rays of the sun ducked under the cloud. I fired off half a dozen shots very quickly, resting against a fence post, so please don't look at this too closely. It is far too noisy, and heavily cropped, but all I wanted to do was show those incredible pink stripes. They were gone as soon as they'd appeared, but I'm glad I made the effort.
johnloguk > 29.9.09 - Wild Sky

This was last night, not long after I posted the collage as my Daily. Skies like this normally appear after a storm, but this one came as dreary grey clouds simply broke up at sunset. I was on my way to see a customer and pulled over to take a couple of quick shots before the colours disappeared.

I've not taken any photos today, it has been so manic that I didn't eat anything until 4pm!
johnloguk > 15.9.09 - The Kite

I was very lucky this evening. I went to see a customer, but I was early and she was "having her hair done"! So I had some time to kill. I had a drive round looking for photo opportunities, and found some guys flying a large paraglider style kite. It was almost impossible to photograph, I just couldn't get in the right position. But as I was trying the sun went behind a cloud and this happened. So I quickly pulled back from the kite and fired off a few shots before the sun re-appeared. I increased the contrast slightly to accentuate the rays without making it look unreal.

I've been really busy again the last couple of days and only been able to make a few brief comments, so thanks to everyone who has taken the time to comment on my photos.

johnloguk > 11.9.09 - Under a Blood Red Sky

What a way to end the week, guess who is glad he dragged his carcass out on the off chance of a nice sunset?

On the average manic Friday I finish work around 8pm, then stagger to the take-away to order myself a Lamb Shish. This evening I thought the sky showed promise so walked to the old quarry instead. After about 20 minutes this happened. To add to the Zen nature of the moment two guys were practicing marshall arts just down the slope from me. I've got a stack of images to process now, which I'll upload later. In the meantime enjoy this one. I think it is appropriate considering the events of today 8 years ago.

There is a collage showing how this developed here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Landscapes/LINCOLN-SUNSETS/4053411_yY5Qg#646412670_L65BH
