 The Tree Challenge...04/20/09
The Challenge:Show us your interpretation of "Tree."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, FotoEffects, Hillary, and myself.
The Result: Spring Trees. I really couldn't decide what to use for this challenge, something arty, abstract? In the end this one grabbed me by the throat and begged to be used. No frames this time, no collages, no vignettes, no text, just huge chunks of Spring colour straight out of camera. There are still plenty of trees round here with little or no leaves on them, but this cherry and the willows along the river are in full effect right now. This was taken on Saturday, so is very similar to my Daily from that day, and it is also the reverse of this view from a couple of weeks ago http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/7240041_kZdsG/2/505016407_qqzi2#P-2-15

so I promise I'll leave this view alone for a while now :)

PS. If you use the "map this" feature you can see the trees, and even the swans!
johnloguk > 16.4.09 - "Are you all white Dear?"

A tunnel of blossom on a grey drizzly day. I just happened to be in this part of town for business, and I had to get off the road to make some phone calls. The park was the most convenient place to gather my thoughts, and imagine my surprise when I came across this beautiful spot. I just wish the sun had been shining, but maybe I'll save that for another day.

Thanks for your kind words on my "sunset on a lorry shot", rest assured you guys will be the first to see it all painted up!
johnloguk > 4.4.09 - Old View, New Growth

OK I've used this view before, but it was such beautiful morning today with brand new growth on the willow tree and bright Spring colours..
johnloguk > 3.4.09 - Someone else is happy that Spring is here :)

During the Winter months the squirrels in Hartsholme Park are remarkably friendly and it is easy to photograph them. But they are very skittish at the moment and it is far more of a challenge. I was very lucky with this one!

Have a great weekend everyone
johnloguk > 1.4.09 - Spring Evening

Our clocks went forward 1 hour last weekend so suddenly we have longer evenings again. This was taken just before 7pm this evening, and it is now light until nearly 8pm. It has been one of the warmest days of the year so far too, maybe the warmest, and this will be the first of many evening shoots over the coming months. The park was full of people, walking the dog, playing games, holding hands, sitting on the grass in groups, that extra hour makes so much difference.

Thanks for the comments on my collage yesterday, you inspire me to keep it up for a year and make that calendar. But for this evening an important World Cup qualifier against Ukraine takes priority, I'll try and catch up later :)
johnloguk > 14.3.09 - Heather

There are pink and purple carpets of heather all over my housing estate at the moment, and it really is one of my favourite flowers. I couldn't resist putting another vignette around this, adding to the natural soft feel of the original image.

I've been busy busy busy with the kids today, so no time to check the Dailies. I might be away tomorrow so will probably end up posting late again, but I'll catch up eventually :) Hope you're all having a wonderful sunny weekend like me.
johnloguk > 21.2.09 - Spring?

It is a stunning Springlike day here today, I've been out this morning in just a shirt and trousers, and I was still hot! After doing my usual Saturday chores this morning I decided to seek out some snowdrops for my Daily. I found so many that I couldn't decide how to shoot them! Should I try to get artistic with a single flower and spectacular bokeh? Stand back and capture a white carpet? In the end I went for the middle ground, and threw in some yellow for good measure. Singalong with me....."it's a beautiful day, don't let it fade away" :)
johnloguk > Watercolour of young spring leaves
johnloguk > 21.4.08 - Spring is back! After the dreary weather of yesterday it is back to big blue skies again today. I got out for a lunchtime run, and as usual there is a story behind the photo. I try to run in this area as often as I can, although it takes a car to get there which seems a bit of a waste. But the whole area is under threat of a massive housing development, so I want to keep running there while I can. This development epitomises a huge issue across Britain at the moment, that of building homes on flood plains. Last summer tens of thousands of people were made homeless by the worst summer floods in hundreds of years, and yet the drive for more houses is pushing more and more Councils to consider this as an option. Yes Britain is a small but densely populated country, and there is a housing shortage, but building on flood plains is asking for trouble, especially with climate change.

Anyway, on a more positive note; I love this place for running. The path is soft and forgiving on the old joints, while being smooth enough to have minimal trip hazards. The stream has kingfishers darting back and forth, as well as umpteen ducks and other wildfowl, and in the summer the wild flowers in the woods are beautiful. Mind you, in the summer the bracken is head high, so the view is a bit different :)
