johnloguk > 14.10.09 - Under the Bridge

This is a B&W high contrast re-working of a shot from a photo walk I did last night. I know that my images tend to concentrate on the rich colours of the natural world, but I also really enjoy the world of "darker" urban images. I like photos that tell stories, or at least give the viewer clues to make up their own possibilities. I hope this is one of those :)

Some very different images from the walk itself, some familiar, some new, can be found here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/9969682_WjJaL#681164045_bUhJq
johnloguk > 13.10.09 - Shangri-la

I was tempted to try another triptych after the response to the one a couple of days ago. This is a re-working of an old colour transparency from one of my trips to Nepal. It was taken in the village of Beding, in the Rowaling Valley. It was a truly magical place, and this glorious sunset was the icing on the cake towards the end of a wonderful expedition. I can't recommend world travel enough, especially to really wild places. We all need to get out of our comfort zones on a regular basis. There is nothing worse than a narrow view of the world. There are so many incredible places out there, more than enough for a lifetime.

My first attempt at a vertical triptych is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Photography/ODDSNENDS/4328734_9ZqLR#679891122_jTPcz
johnloguk > 28.9.09 - South Lincolnshire

This is a collection of shots from my commission in the South of the County yesterday. It is an area of flat lands, big skies, windmills, country pubs and quiet waterways. I couldn't choose a single shot to represent the place, so you get nine. I still haven't finished putting the gallery together, but you'll be the first to know when I do :)

johnloguk > 3.9.09 - Gone Fishin'

I think my brain is overloaded this week, or maybe it's just age. I didn't take any photos yesterday, partly through lack of opportunity, but also because I didn't have any motivation to do so. I suppose we all have days like that, when finding a Daily feels like a chore, but yesterday was a real bad one for me. I have been trying to drag myself out of my malaise this morning, far too many things to do on a Friday than be miserable anyway. Then I found some shots in the camera from Wednesday that I'd completely forgotten taking (yes, it probably is my age!). I was early for collecting the kids, and so went for a short walk along the river. It was grey and windy, but this has a nice pastoral feel to it I suppose.

Anyway, there will be another Daily along in a minute. Just like buses eh? You wait two days and none come, then two arrive at once :)
johnloguk > 2.3.09 - The Original Newark :)

This is for Bill Pador and all the other members of the Dailies who live near "Nork Noo Joyzee". I had a lot of fun yesterday with an afternoon shoot around Newark, Nottinghamshire, revisiting old haunts and finding a few new ones. I'm still wading through the 300+ pics that I took, but hopefully they'll be in a gallery before too long, and I'll link from here.

In the meantime, apologies again for being AWOL from commenting, I promise to try and catch up when I get chance.

OK the Newark gallery is now up, please feel free to take a leisurely stroll round this pretty little town;

johnloguk > 9.5.08 - Grace Under Pressure. This isn't a new photo, but it sums up today for me and I've been working on it a bit this evening (cropping and sharpening). It has been another scorcher of a day, at one point my car told me that it was 27 degrees C, and my head is now radiating the heat it absorbed earlier :) But I'm about to tuck into a nice beer, and very soon I'll be human again and looking forward to the weekend. I always feel like this on a Friday night, and this week has been particularly manic. I've worked hard and achieved a lot, but from the outside it probably looks like I've coped really easily. So that's why I feel a bit like a swan on a glorious sunny day. All serene on the outside, but paddling like mad just out of sight!

I forgot to put this link on originally. It is a time lapse video, showing the erection of the face sculpture that I used as a DP a few days ago; http://www.lincolndrillhall.com/sculpture_timelapse/index.html
johnloguk > 18.4.08 - Hands Across the Water. I think I've mentioned before that Friday is always a manic day for me, not enough hours in it etc. Today was even more so than usual, so when a friend asked if I wanted to meet up in town this evening I was more than happy. Then I realised that I hadn't taken a photo yet, so while I was waiting for my friend to arrive I fired off a whole load of shots along the waterside. It was incredibly windy, and as usual I didn't have my tripod, so most of the shots went straight in the bin. Some worked great, but were similar to ones I've used as DPs before, so I decided to experiment. This is basically a B&W version of the watercolour effect, with some tweaking of contrast and grain. I just love that scuplture of the leaping figures, and from this footbridge they frame different things, while appearing to be holding hands. Anyway, if it's rubbish I blame the alcohol :)

Other shots from this evening are scattered across the My Hometown, Watercolour and B&W galleries if you have the time to check them out. I'm particularly pleased with this one as an experiment; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4518270_XDZuH#281387936_25ZBU-A-LB
johnloguk > I love the water as much as the swan in this shot.
14.10.09 - Under the Bridge

This is a B&W high contrast re-working of a shot from a photo walk I did last night. I know that my images tend to concentrate on the rich colours of the natural world, but I also really enjoy the world of "darker" urban images. I like photos that tell stories, or at least give the viewer clues to make up their own possibilities. I hope this is one of those :)

Some very different images from the walk itself, some familiar, some new, can be found here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/9969682_WjJaL#681164045_bUhJq
