johnloguk > 11.9.09 - Under a Blood Red Sky

What a way to end the week, guess who is glad he dragged his carcass out on the off chance of a nice sunset?

On the average manic Friday I finish work around 8pm, then stagger to the take-away to order myself a Lamb Shish. This evening I thought the sky showed promise so walked to the old quarry instead. After about 20 minutes this happened. To add to the Zen nature of the moment two guys were practicing marshall arts just down the slope from me. I've got a stack of images to process now, which I'll upload later. In the meantime enjoy this one. I think it is appropriate considering the events of today 8 years ago.

johnloguk > 7.6.09 - Red

"Red" is the title of my favourite album by my favourite band King Crimson, it is also the colour of these wonderful rhododendrons that I saw this morning. Sadly it is also what I see when I close my eyes at the moment because of a sinus infection! I've even resorted to wearing sunglasses indoors to relief the pain, which should make me feel like a rock star, but really only makes me bump into things!
johnloguk > 26.2.09 - Ginger Nut :)

Just a few snatched photos around the waterfront in town today, it has been a mad rush from breakfast to 8pm when I got home this evening. It has also been grey and colder than the last few days, but just as I took this a shaft of light hit the swan and illuminated his face. I don't know where he's been sticking his head lately, but it had something red in it!
johnloguk > 22.2.09 - Red Sky at Night, Photographer's Delight :)

There are times when I feel that sunset photos are nothing to do with me, all I do is point and shoot, Mother Nature and Uncle Nikon do the work! I am also lucky that less than 2 minutes walk from my flat I have this view, so when I see something developing in the sky I just grab the camera and stroll round to the old quarry. Last night was a pretty special sunset as you can see. This is straight out of camera, and there are 11 more in my Lincoln Sunsets Gallery here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#478293082_9jPb4

As I said, not a lot to do with me as a photographer, but still damn spectacular :)
johnloguk > 28.9.08 - The Sky is Bleeding

I was surprised to wake up to heavy skies and rain this morning, but by mid-afternoon it was clearing up and I went for a run with my mate Andy. We're training for a 10km trail run round Sherwood Forest, and to be honest we both run more than 10km regularly, but the more you train the easier the run is on the day. But I digress...

At about 6.30pm I thought a nice sunset might be developing, but there was no way I thought that it would turn into this! I've seen plenty of great sunsets, but I don't think I've ever seen colour like this before. I had to adjust highlights and shadows a bit to bring out the vapour trails on the right, which had been blown out slightly in camera, but this is very much what I saw. If you want to see how this developed over 30 minutes go here; http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/4053411_yY5Qg#382235631_xMuxx
johnloguk > The missing golfer! This slightly surreal photo nearly made it into the Daily Photos gallery, but I went for the horse instead. I was initially drawn to the bright red flag on a miserable grey day. Then I saw the golf ball, barely 3 feet from the pin, but not a golfer in sight. I waited around for ages, but there wasn't anyone to be seen. Why on earth would someone hit a golf ball that close to the hole, and then leave it? Your guess is as good as mine. By the way; I love most sports, but I'm with Mark Twain when it comes to golf!
johnloguk > Red Grouse, Howden Moor, Derbyshire, UK. A friend and I were walking on Howden Moor and this grouse strutted and posed for photos for ages. He seemed very friendly, and not at all shy of people. Then a couple of days later, another friend and his Dad were in the same place and met our friend the grouse. But this time he wasn't so friendly and attacked them, bizarre!
johnloguk > Red Deer Stag, Scottish Highlands
johnloguk > Composite panorama at Sligachan. I've added the rainbow to my first attempt at a composite from this viewpoint. The Sgurr nan Gillean group of the northern Black Cuillin are on the right. The Red Cuillin peak of Marsco is above the old bridge, with the other Red Cuillin off to the left.
