johnloguk > 13.11.09 - Wet and Windy

Storms are on their way in from the West, floods are predicted for tomorrow, yep, It's November :)

I've spent most of today in my car, and finally got home at 8pm, pretty common for manic Friday. This shot was taken using available light, don't worry, the car wasn't moving at the time. It isn't the most technically gifted shot I've ever taken, but I just thought it summed up this evening nicely. Now I'm going to hit the cheese, got a nice piece of Blue Stilton begging to be eaten with some chutney and beer :)
johnloguk > 3.11.09 - Heavy Showers

This is the view from my window a few minutes ago, it must be my fastest ever post to the Dailies!

We've had everything today. I woke up to rain, then it cleared and we had a couple of hours of pristine blue skies, but now the forecasted heavy showers have started to come through. At least I won't have to wash the car today. Mind you, I never wash the car, a terrible waste of water!

As I type this the blue sky has returned :)
johnloguk > 21.10.09 - Slippery When Wet

Today was wet and miserable, I should have checked the weather forecast before I decided to take it off! But, nothing ventured nothing gained, and when I did pick up my camera in the afternoon I had a pretty good photo walk despite the rain. The full gallery is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Photography/WET-AFTERNOON/10045263_kkXPE#688356610_Q2Tf2 Largely a new twist on some familiar sights, with the rain and Autumn colours creating some atmospheric images. This image was crying out for some "watercolour" treatment, so no apologies for two in a row. Several people have commented that they think these are HDRs, but in fact they are just manipulations of shadows/highlights and midtone contrast. The processing works best on grey days, with lots of details in the shot, like this.

Just before sunset I almost missed the clearance on the Western horizon, but I raced out into the rain again and caught a wonderful sunset and rainbow, which can be seen here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Landscapes/RAINBOW-SUNSET/10043633_xpdH9#688199348_4tbMF

So today wasn't such a washout after all :)
johnloguk > 29.7.09 - Rain

Today has been the wettest of the year so far. No spectacular storm clouds, just heavy grey skies and constant rain. I originally set out to take a photo of the drowned street view from my window, but quickly realised that I could get a much better shot by closing in and focusing on the window rather than the outside.

Thank-you for your kind comments on my sepia storm image, it is one of my favourites so far
johnloguk > 24.7.09 - Stripey Sky

More heavy showers and rainbows today. Not much chance to shoot photos on my usual manic Friday, but I couldn't resist trying to capture this rainbow. It was raining hard and I was standing in a muddy puddle, with one hand sheltering the lens from getting soaked like yesterday and the other trying to hold the camera steady. If someone had got a photo of me I suspect it would have been more spectacular than this :)
johnloguk > 9.7.09 - Something for the weekend Sir?

You were going to get another SP tonight out of desperation, but then I thought this weather forecast for the weekend was amusing. I can't remember the last time I saw a map like this, I'll let you know how accurate it is :)

I added Lincoln just in case you don't know where I live ;)
johnloguk > 6.7.09 - Rare Rain

This one is for Karina, the Queen of drive by shooting ;)

Well our heatwave has broken at last, with thunderstorms this morning, but nothing lasting more than a few minutes.

I was parked for this shot by the way!
johnloguk > 18.5.09 - Secret View

This is another shot from my rainy photo walk yesterday afternoon, but I like it so much I just had to share it on the Dailies. I was walking along a very muddy riverbank taking photos of the old industrial buildings on the other side of the river, when I turned round and saw the Cathedral framed between the trees up on the hill. I liked the framing, but I also liked the rich colours as though the rain had washed everything bright and clean.

I used a B&W version of yesterday's industrial Daily for my Monday Challenge shot here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/7093288_hSxt4#539436712_xQFxH
johnloguk > 17.5.09 - After the Rain

It feels like we've had more rain in the last 3 days than we had in the previous 5 months. When I went out with the camera this afternoon I intended getting some gritty industrial shots, but then the sun came out and everything changed. I took this one just as the clouds were starting to break up, but the puddles left some nice reflections. I'll add the rest to my Hometown gallery tomorrow as it has gone midnight here now.

Late edit. "shrubmonkey" and others might be interested in checking out my Monday Challenge shot here, which was the main reason for visiting this area in the first place; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/7093288_hSxt4#539436712_xQFxH
