29.09.16 - The March to 1066
These are shots from the "March to 1066", an event organised by English Heritage to commemorate the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Specifically it remembers the long forced march of King Harold and his army. After marching north to defeat Viking invaders at the battle of Stamford Bridge, they then had to turn round and march back to the south coast to face the invasion by William the Conqueror and his Norman army. Of course they lost that battle, making 1066 the most pivotal year in British history, it changed everything. They almost defeated William too, how different things might have been? These re-enactors are recreating the original route of Harold and his army, including Lincoln.
