We had some beautiful weather today, so I went for a short walk in between all the sport on the TV :)

This was taken at Riseholme Hall, a couple of miles north of Lincoln. There is a gallery from the walk here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/10477926_stAee#726962030_v5TKD
johnloguk > 16.11.09 - Big Blue

This is another shot from my walk round Whisby Nature Park yesterday afternoon. I gave you a view of the small things yesterday, so here is the bigger picture, it was such a beautiful day.

We had a glorious sunset this evening, with a full arch double rainbow in the sky at the same time. But sadly I was stuck in the middle of a housing estate, and although I tried there was no way I could capture either successfully.

I'm really struggling to comment on the Dailies at the moment, partly through being busy, but also because I'm having problems with Smugmug logging me out every time I change pages again. This is a shame because the quality of pics on the Dailies has been fantastic lately.
johnloguk > For my first contribution to this gallery and community I thought I'd create an homage to one of my heroes, Don McCullin. He earned his reputation as a war photographer, but in recent years has specialised in atmospheric black and white landscapes. He has inspired me with everything he has done, so this seems fitting :)
johnloguk > 11.10.09 - Triple

It's been a while since I tried one of these. I've had a manic, but fun, weekend, can't complain about being busy or taking the kids to the circus :)

I finally got some time to myself late this afternoon and took a walk down to the Arboretum. I've taken hundreds of photos there so was trying to find different perspectives. I shot a lot at 200mm, and also shot a lot at 18mm with the intention of doing panoramic crops later. Several of the "panos" broke down nicely into multiple shots, which is how I ended up creating this triptych.

johnloguk > 30.5.09 - May

Oh boy was it hard to pick the shots for this month's wildflower collage, there are just so many to choose from now, and more by the day. But some just had to be there, the oxide daisy, the wild rose, the buttercups, forget me nots and flag iris. The rhododendrons made the background as they were sufficiently different to most of the rest of the flowers, but I nearly used a bank of oxide daisies and a field of buttercups. This is getting really hard, but I'm enjoying the challenge and will definitely make it through the year, watch this space :)

Thanks for the kind words on yesterdays butterfly shot, they are still everywhere today and look so beautiful in the sunshine.
johnloguk > 25.5.09 - Fishing for Rhododendrons

I spotted this bank of rhododendrons while I was on my run yesterday evening, so today I wanted to go back and photograph it. Unfortunately the sunshine has been replaced by a drizzly grey day, but if anything this has enhanced the colours.

If anyone would like to see my Monday Challenge shot it is here, and it is quite different :)

johnloguk > 24.5.09 - Summer Evening Reflections

It has been a beautiful day here today, 23 degrees, unbroken blue skies and a gentle warm breeze. Not much reason to stop inside then, so I spent most of it out and about taking photos. I spent most of the afternoon in one of my favourite places, Hartsholme Park, initially taking photos, then when it cooled down a bit I went for a run. This shot is typical of the paths along side the lake in Hartsholme, perfect for running on, with great views through the branches. The reflections were fantastic today, I could have run for hours around the park and adjoining Swanholme Lakes nature reserve. There were a few mosquitoes around, a good incentive to keep moving, and amazingly I think I escaped without a bite :)

It was difficult to balance the light and shade in this photo, and I played with levels a bit in PP to get close to reality, but this sums up why I like running round this area. Of course it's great for walking too, but you can cover more ground running :)

Thanks for the kind words on my planet yesterday, I hope some of you tried to make one. Don't give up if it doesn't work first time though, because once you've worked out what images work best they become rather easy, honest :)
johnloguk > 10.4.09 - "The Ladye"

Time for another photo from the Lady of Shalott project http://www.theladyofshalott.co.uk/index.html The film will be launched next month, but more imagery has been released recently so this isn't giving any secrets away now. This shot is from the first shoot I was involved in, back in September 2008. It was taken in Hartsholme Park at dusk, in an attempt to recreate a famous painting of The Lady, hence the treatment of this image. I have to admit that of all the tens of thousands of photos that I've taken this is one of my all time favourites. I love the dreamlike quality of it, and the simple fact that it is nothing like anything I've ever done before, and it was also a huge challenge to shoot at the time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)

I've been insanely busy the last couple of days so haven't been on the Dailies, but I'll try and catch up over the weekend, have a great Easter everyone!
johnloguk > 5.4.09 - Lazy Hazy Sunday Afternoon

I don't know who was more amused by the antics of the geese, me or the seagull. There was a light mist on the water, but the camera didn't pick it up on this close crop, so I added my own with the vignette. Clever old PP eh :)
