johnloguk > 24.10.09 - A Walk in the Park

We've had another of those strange days, with on and off rain until late afternoon, then a sudden clearance and beautiful weather to finish the day. Having dodged the rain in town all morning, I thought I deserved a walk in the park once the sun came out. I went down to Hartsholme and Swanholme and shot off about 100 photos, some of which are here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/5965117_7hV9D#691213196_QUw74

I was agonising over choosing a Daily, then thought that this image was the stand out shot of the day. Things fell into place once I added the sepia filter and frame, I hope you like it as much as I do.
johnloguk > 21.10.09 - Slippery When Wet

Today was wet and miserable, I should have checked the weather forecast before I decided to take it off! But, nothing ventured nothing gained, and when I did pick up my camera in the afternoon I had a pretty good photo walk despite the rain. The full gallery is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Photography/WET-AFTERNOON/10045263_kkXPE#688356610_Q2Tf2 Largely a new twist on some familiar sights, with the rain and Autumn colours creating some atmospheric images. This image was crying out for some "watercolour" treatment, so no apologies for two in a row. Several people have commented that they think these are HDRs, but in fact they are just manipulations of shadows/highlights and midtone contrast. The processing works best on grey days, with lots of details in the shot, like this.

Just before sunset I almost missed the clearance on the Western horizon, but I raced out into the rain again and caught a wonderful sunset and rainbow, which can be seen here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Landscapes/RAINBOW-SUNSET/10043633_xpdH9#688199348_4tbMF

So today wasn't such a washout after all :)
johnloguk > 20.10.09 - Calm

Despite the traffic calming measures on this quiet residential street the scene was anything but "calm". Today has been bitterly cold with a biting wind. The experts tell us that we have another week until the Autumn colours reach their peak, but if this wind keeps up there won't be many leaves left on the trees.

It's been a while since I did one of my "watercolours", but this image was certainly lifted by it. It's also been a while since I posted a Daily taken in daytime, a sign of the times I suspect :)
johnloguk > 17.10.09 - Dusk Walkers

I didn't intend another monochrome, but after a long and frustrating day I took a short photo walk at dusk, and this treatment really seemed to suit the image. This is one of my favourite places for photography, by the north-east corner of the Cathedral, and it has featured as a Daily at least twice before. I love it at dusk when the lights have come on, but there is still some colour in the sky. You wouldn't believe there is a road off to the left and traffic lights at my back. You don't have to wait long for people to walk into the image and give it human interest either.

Apologies for minimal commenting yet again, but I seem to be in a permanent state of rushing about and high stress at the moment
johnloguk > 4.10.09 - Woooooooooooooooooooooooooo

More ghostly goings on in the "ghost corridor". I think yesterday's ghost pic had a romantic feel to it, so I tried for a more Gothic feel to this one. I promise to do something different tomorrow :)
johnloguk > 13.9.09 - Indian Summer

How much longer can our beautiful run of weather continue?
johnloguk > 1.9.09 - Echoes

I've been playing with some of the photos I took over the weekend, and this image was just crying out for this treatment. It is one of the many quiet hidden corners in Lincoln Cathedral. I love how the ceiling and opposite walls are so different, and yet compliment each other. Not many people find this place, but there is that strange feeling that you are never alone here.
johnloguk > 14.7.09 - Old View, Different Presentation

I've shot this scene many times, at night in particular, but this evening I thought it was due the watercolour treatment. It's been a few weeks since I did one, and I really like the way the sky turned out. This frame seems to work nicely with the treatment, I hope you like it too.

I hope to be around the Dailies a bit more this weekend, I am so behind in commenting and I know I'll have missed some real treats. Thanks again for still commenting on my images even though I've been AWOL most of the time :)
johnloguk > 26.6.09 - Water Colour

After a desperately long and busy day I thought that a nice sunset walk along the canal would be a good way to wind down, but the mosquitoes disagreed. For the second day running the sunset didn't co-operate either, and everything went a bit grey and flat. But once I got home and had a nice meal things started to look a bit better. I applied my watercolour effect to this image and it brought it alive, refreshing the colours and reflections. The frame is something new for me, but I quite like it, I hope you like it too. I love these old boats, no two are the same, and the canal was built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago. It is a beautiful serene place within walking distance of the City Centre.

I see that my mild mannered remark about the media reaction to Michael Jackson's death yesterday upset someone. So much that they decided to hide behind a nickname and leave a snide comment giving my photo 1 star. I don't really mind, the delete key works fine, but I do worry about some people. I try to live in the real world, not the pages of celebrity magazines. So I am far more concerned about the 100s of millions of people in the world who still have to walk miles for fresh water, than the death of cosseted millionaires with dodgy personal habits.

We're all adults, or most of us are, so we don't have to agree all the time, but there is no need to attack someone's photos just because you don't share the same musical taste :)
