johnloguk > 14.5.09 - Timeless Rock

A blast from the archives, this is Stanage Edge back in March given the sepia filter treatment. After a stressful morning dodging showers and trying to cram a whole day's work into a few hours, I'm now attempting to de-stress by playing in photoshop. It is funny how you see different possibilities with photographs if you re-visit them after a few weeks gap.

Just a B&W conversion on one of the photos from last weekend, with a slight vignette added to give the impression of looking into the past. It's 9.30pm here now and I've not had chance to check out the Dailies yet, but I'll try now. Another manic Friday out of the way, and a two day photo shoot to look forward to over the weekend, wish me luck :)
johnloguk > 16.3.09 - On any given Sunday :)

This is another shot from my walk on the edge. If yesterday's Daily was dramatic and in your face, then this one is the bigger picture. I've finally got the gallery from yesterday up and running here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/7615547_Wv2SG#P-1-15 Don't worry, they aren't all vertiginous!

If you want something completely different, and I do mean completely different, then try my Monday Challenge pic here; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/7093288_hSxt4#492539426_KGc5f
johnloguk > 15.3.09 - Rock and Roll

I spent today at a place called Stanage Edge, a real Mecca for rock climbers. I took hundreds of shots and I'm not half-way through processing them yet, but I thought I'd better get a Daily posted before midnight our time. I think I might have made it by a minute :)

I like adding this zoom effect to make vertigo sufferers suffer even more, it was a really great shoot, I've missed getting my hands on some steep rock, it was like stepping back in time, a fantastic day. I hope to get the gallery up some time tomorrow. It should suit adrenaline junkies and people who love sweeping landscapes and big vistas, oh and the odd sheep :)

Late Edit; check out my very different Monday Challenge shot here - http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/gallery/7093288_hSxt4#492539426_KGc5f
johnloguk > 1.8.08 - Absent Friends

I seem to having lots of anniversaries at the moment. Yesterday I completed my first 6 months in the Dailies, and tomorrow I will have been in my new flat for a year. Today would have been my 27th wedding anniversary, but for the fact that my first wife Gill died of a brain haemorrhage on July 20th 1986. This photo was taken in January 1985, at the end of a wonderful day walking in the Derbyshire Hills. The original was a colour transparency, and is in another gallery, but this has been cropped and tidied up a bit for the Dailies.

Gill and I shared a love of wild places, especially mountains, but as a cash strapped young couple we never got beyond the UK. This was good in that it allowed our daft black lab "Kelly" to go everywhere with us, we were quite a team. We had great plans, but they were all for a future that never happened for us. After Gill died my attitude to life changed considerably, never put off 'til tomorrow what you can do today, you never know what might happen.

Much has happened in the intervening years, some bad, but most good. One of the best experiences of recent years has been joining the Dailies and making many great new friends, albeit at the other end of fibre optic cables halfway round the world. You guys have taught me so much, about myself as well as about photography, and long may it continue :)
johnloguk > 20.3.08 - My plans for the weekend! This is a photo from last summer, of the view from Howden Edge in the English Peak District. Today it is foul with driving rain, and I have loads of work to clear before the weekend, which starts tomorrow of course. I'm unlikely to get out with the camera today, so I'm cheating with a re-working of this photo. I hope to get out here, or somewhere nearby, walking at the weekend. But you know what they say; "if you want to give God a laugh, tell him your plans"!

One small historical note. The reservoir in the shot is where the Dambusters practiced for their raid in WW2.
