johnloguk > 10.11.09 - Ghost at the Machine :)

Looks like even ghosts pay to park their cars at night in Lincoln! It wasn't quite as foggy this evening as last night, but it was still enough to create a nice mood for this photographer.

johnloguk > 18.9.09 - Lights, Camera, Action!

This was last night in town. The reason for the title might not be completely obvious, but the coloured lights on the left are a cinema, and I thought it kind of fitted with the floodlit cathedral and reflections in the water too. If you look at XL3 you will see the swans lining up with the people for a movie :)

johnloguk > 2.9.09 - Wide

This is a 3 shot photomerge panorama, taken from the Observatory Tower at Lincoln Castle. The view is from north through to about east-south-east. The Swiss couple were happy to pose for me, and I like the way the panorama captures both them and the view they were shooting. It was quite difficult to match the 3 shots together, and I did more cloning across one of the joins than I would usually bother with, but it is all good fun.

I'm really struggling to comment much at the moment, but I am managing to check through most of the wonderful Dailies and leave a few thumbs up. Thank-you to everyone who manages to comment on my images despite my lack of reciprocation.
johnloguk > 3.6.09 - Silence is Golden

It's been a long time since I had a sunset for my Daily, I hope it has been worth the wait. I originally went out for a walk along the river and got some nice wildflower shots, but this presented itself on the way home. I don't like having the sun in the frame, it can make the image noisy, fill it with flare and doesn't do wonders for the eyes, but I hope it adds to the image here. This view of Lincoln Cathedral is from the south-east, with the observatory tower of the Castle on the extreme left of the shot. There weren't many clouds in the sky, but there was a low haze that gave this wonderful golden glow. A group of birds flew over at just the right time too.

I've had lousy hay fever the last couple of days, which has made staring at a computer screen pretty painful, so apologies if I didn't comment on your pics. Thanks for all the kind words on my truck pics and postcards, you are a wonderful bunch of people :)
johnloguk > 2.3.09 - The Original Newark :)

This is for Bill Pador and all the other members of the Dailies who live near "Nork Noo Joyzee". I had a lot of fun yesterday with an afternoon shoot around Newark, Nottinghamshire, revisiting old haunts and finding a few new ones. I'm still wading through the 300+ pics that I took, but hopefully they'll be in a gallery before too long, and I'll link from here.

In the meantime, apologies again for being AWOL from commenting, I promise to try and catch up when I get chance.

OK the Newark gallery is now up, please feel free to take a leisurely stroll round this pretty little town;

johnloguk > 6.12.08 - Getting in the Christmas Spirit

I went up to the Christmas Market again this evening. I was dreading the Saturday crowds, but I fancied a longer look round than I got on Thursday and needed a lot more photos for my gallery http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/6738542_jSM8e#431506672_8mWnT In the end it was great. I found the Medieval Market in the Old Bishops Palace, which was brilliant, and had some great roast chestnuts from this stall in the shadow of the Castle. The temperature was hovering around freezing, but some hot chestnuts washed down with mulled wine was just the job. A venison burger and pint of "Rosey Nosey" Christmas beer also helped :)

I'm hoping that the car will take me off and find some snow tomorrow, but we'll have to see about that!
johnloguk > 21.7.08 - This one is for Jacinda. She keeps telling me how much she likes my mock antique postcards, and I haven't done one for a while, well a couple of weeks anyway!

This is taken from the observatory tower of the Castle, a wonderful place and a wonderful view. There is only room for a handful of people up there at a time, and you can only get there via a very narrow spiral stone staircase. Many people get extreme vertigo attacks the moment they pop their heads out at the top and can't get back down again quick enough. It is a great place to people watch as well as Cathedral watch!

This gives some idea of how low the battlements and retaining rails are; http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4800928_4ZWLM#285203130_Gbqek-A-LB
