The first tanks were designed, built and tested in Lincoln for instance. Most of the heavy engineering has gone now, and been replaced by lighter engineering or service industries. Just right of centre is a legacy of 1960s building madness. One of only three tower blocks to be built in the town, we got off very lightly! The building on the left is the famous "Titanic Works", seen end on.

This is a gallery for miscellaneous images of my hometown Lincoln in the East of England. I love the green spaces, where I often go for runs and generally recharge my batteries, but there is no escaping the majestic Cathedral and Historic Quarter. I hope that people who know Lincoln will find something new here, as well as a few old favourites. Of course there are plenty of beautiful Lincoln sunsets and more ethereal photos in other galleries.

The Cathedral and Castle from Stamp End. This shot was made possible by a relatively new viewing platform. The cathedral is more often obscured behind nearer buildings from this angle.

Stamp End Lock and Sluice from "upstream". The building on the right is all that remains of a massive heavy engineering works that made agricultural threshing machines. The building just visible behind the lock is the old "Titanic Works", an even bigger foundry, built to the exact specifications of the ill-fated ocean liner. It now houses local government offices, a radio station and a gym.

Stamp End Lock and Sluice. Just east of the City Centre this lock helps manage the flow of the River Witham on its way to the sea at Boston, about 40 miles away. This used to be an area of heavy industry, most of which has now gone.
