DigitalGrin > johnloguk  > Photography > MAGICAL LIGHT
One of my motivations for both mountaineering and photography, is the chance to capture those moments of magical light. Perfectly positioned rainbows, evocative reflections, light filtered through mist, water or autumn leaves, shafts of "holy" light etc.

johnloguk > The sculpture at the top of the fountain in the next image. I liked the way the light was playing on the spray, making it look like a shower of molten metal. I quite like the bokeh in this too :)
johnloguk > Fairy Fountain. This fountain is almost totally surrounded by trees, but a shaft of light was shining through a gap and illuminating the water spray. I tried for the longest exposure that I could get but still couldn't really capture the dreamy nature of the light on the water. The relatively long exposure also blurred the leaves in the wind, so it just didn't look right. I used the diffuse glow filter for the first time and I quite like the result. It isn't exactly what I saw, but it's pretty close
johnloguk > Crack in the Sky. I was walking down the canal when this huge black cloud came over and filled the sky. Just as I thought I was going to get soaked, the sun broke through along a thin line, and within seconds the whole thing had broken up and we were back in the sunshine.
johnloguk > Buttercups at sunset. The whole field was alive with them, this is my best attempt at capturing their glory.

johnloguk > My first attempt at this sort of thing, the original shot can be seen here http://johnloguk.smugmug.com/gallery/4267920_D7nBU#260985283

I used to try and make my photos as natural as possible, but I'm now experimenting a bit to see how to make light even more magical without becoming a slave to photoshop and losing the spirit of the original. Time will tell how successful I am!
