DailyPhotos > John Bennett  > Photography > DAILY PHOTOS SIXTH YEAR
Into my sixth year of taking and posting a photo every day. I will endeavor to use a photo taken that actual day, or at least one that was processed that day, but occasionally I will post something from the archives if I think it is appropriate (or necessary). I will also try to post interesting images, but life isn't always interesting so some will be a bit more mundane :)

I live in the beautiful old historical city of Lincoln in the East of England. It always features heavily in my images. If you're ever over this way be sure to let me know and I'll give you a free guided tour :)

19.02.13 - Frosty Foggy Fishponds

Just when we thought Spring was in the air we woke to freezing fog! By the time I got organised to go out with the camera I thought the frost would have gone, but there was still some down by the river and fishponds. It always amazes me how the temperature varies between town and country, even over the space of a few yards. Literally the other side of the ponds, in the background here, there was no frost. The fog cleared by lunchtime, leaving us with a glorious cloudless sunny day.

Thanks for the comments on my sculpture shot yesterday, for those that are interested there is a small gallery here showing different angles and perspectives;

18.02.13 - Mother and Child

I can't find any information about this sculpture in Temple Gardens, but I know that I love it. I love most forms of public art, the world is a much better place for it, and by taking photos I hope to share it as wide as possible.
17.02.13 - Streaming in on sunlight wings, a million bright ambassadors of morning......

These lyrics from "Echoes" by Pink Floyd were in my head as I shot this in our conservatory yesterday morning. We only moved to our new place last November, so are looking forward to summer in the conservatory. But we need to buy some proper furniture for it and fill it with greenery I think!
16.02.13 - In the Shadow of the Past

I thought this was an interesting perspective, and not one I've seen before. As I took the dog out across the fields yesterday afternoon I could see this about to happen so was ready with my long lens. The dog walker was on a parallel path to us, walking in the opposiite direction. She is about 200 yards away, the Cathedral is about 4 miles away. About 30 minutes after this we had a beautiful sunset, but as this is a more unique shot I'm using it for my Daily :)
15.02.13 - Dusk

Yesterday was beautiful, warm with unbroken sunshine, until sunset that is! Then this cloud drifted in from the SW snuffling out any hopes of big spectacular colour. However, what we got was beautiful in a more subtle way (must be seen huge), pinks, purples, blues, greys, all reflected in the swollen river. It looks peaceful, but it was actually very noisy as the water and sky were full of birds, from gulls to swans, ducks and geese.
14.12.13 - Why the Long Faces?

Some horses trying to deal with their waterlogged pasture down by the river
13.02.13 - Return of the White Stuff!

Snow was forecast for yesterday afternoon, and it duly arrived as I was walking into town for a meeting. I took the scenic route back home along the river and through Boultham Park to get some pics, as it was forecast to change to heavy rain later. This is a 2 shot photomerge panorama at the opposite end of the lake that I've used for panos previously. When I arrived I was mobbed by the ducks and coots who thought I was going to feed them. You can see that the moment they realised I was only taking photos they turned tail and headed back to the water! It is snowing quite heavily here, but it was very fine so it is hard to pick up.

Thanks for the wonderful comments to my night shot yesterday, it is one of my favourites. I'm really busy at the moment so my own commenting continues to be very patchy.
12.02.13 - Lights, Camera, Action.....

This is a re-working of an image from a photo walk I led back when we had snow on the ground recently. The arch is called Priorygate, with Lincoln Cathedral to the right. My friend Mark is standing by the arch getting some spectacular shots with a fish eye lens. It is a 6 second exposure to capture the traffic streaming through the arch, and I have applied the "monday morning" filter in color efex pro to create a slight glow and near monochrome.
11.02.13 - Dream House?

I love this house, I've always loved it, there is a surreal fairy tale element to it, if it was hidden away in a secluded forest it would be perfect. Unfortunately it isn't, it sits slap bang on one of the busiest road junctions in Lincoln! I walk past it most days and it seems to be permanently for sale. I imagine people falling in love with it and buying it all in a rush, then realising that they can't live with the 24/7 traffic noise. I don't know much about the building's history, but I think it was built in the late 19th century as part of the long gone Bracebridge Hall estate.
