DailyPhotos > John Bennett  > Photography > DAILY PHOTOS FIFTH YEAR
This is now my 5th year of shooting a photo a day and posting to this wonderful community. I don't always manage to take something new every single day, but I do try very hard and occasionally my Daily post will be a bit mundane. But such is life, lots of ups and downs, but mainly mundane. I am always my harshest critic, but serious constructive criticism from the viewer is always welcome. I have over 20,000 photos on this website now and would be very honoured if you spent time exploring them too.

Sadly Smugmug no longer uses Google maps, so I am not able to locate my images as accurately as I would like. Older images can still be seen on low resolution maps by clicking on the "map this" feature, but I haven't located newer images as the map quality is so poor.

22.01.13 - Keep Following the Dog!

This is another shot from 2 days ago, but I only got round to processing it yesterday, I had so many of these! Yesterday morning dawned cold and bright, not a cloud in the sky, it was truly magical. I went out for my usual morning run, the 9th day on the trot I'd run in the snow, under a blue sky with sparkly silver snow underfoot. I was looking forward to getting some great pics later, but by the time I'd finished work the cloud had returned and the photo opportunity had gone.

Today is grey overhead again, but the snow is likely to remain for the rest of the week, so fingers crossed for blue skies before it all melts.
21.01.13 - Narnia!

Fresh snow means more fun, for man and dog, you can just see Mr Willis running ahead in this magical tunnel. This is the long distant footpath known as "The Viking Way", which snakes through several Eastern Counties in England, including a long stretch through Lincolnshire. I use it as a regular running route from home, and I was out here running earlier in the morning, what a magical place.

As Art Hill pointed out yesterday, it is ironic that the UK has a lot more snow than many parts of the US this winter, but I'm not complaining, I love it :)
20.01.13 - Keep Your Focus............

I did a guided photo walk yesterday afternoon hoping to get lots of nice winter landscape shots, but it was a very grey day with very flat light and not many scenic views. We started off shooting some gulls who were being fed bread on frozen Hartsholme Lake, this was quite a challenge. We tried panning to catch individual birds in flight, not easy in low light conditions, but I am really pleased how this one came out.

We've had another fall pf snow overnight, in fact it is still falling, so everything is covered in a fresh layer of pristine white, including my snowman :)
19.01.13 - Snowman

Just another grey day, so instead of another landscape here is the snowman I made in our back garden. :)

Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my winter panoramas, and also those of you who resurrected the "eclipse" shot of the seed head from 2010
18.01.13 - Ice Blue

Another 3 shot photomerge panorama from Boultham Park, this time with ice on the lake and blue skies. I love the subtle reflections and dusting of snow on the frozen lake, unfortunately the sun disappeared shortly afterwards. We had a couple of inches more snow yesterday afternoon, but it is a lot milder today, just on freezing. I hope to get out for a run and photos before it starts to get slushy.

Thanks for the wonderful comments on my two panos yesterday. I think I prefer the alternative daily one too :)
17.01.13 - Frozen in Blue

Yesterday dawned very cold and bright, everything covered in hoar frost under a beautiful sky. This is a 2 shot photomerge panorama with the river on the left and Bracebridge Hall Fishponds on the right. The fishponds are frozen solid, the river is ice free because it is flowing. We have a lot more snow forecast today and over the weekend :)

This is another pano looking in the oppositie direction from a couple of hundred yards upstream;

16.01.13 - Winter Lake

Another Boultham Park photomerge panorama, this time only 2 shots, and an accidental one! Usually I set out to deliberately make panoramas, you have to so that things join up properly. But occasionally you'll be looking back through photos and realise that two shots will join up, even though you didn't intend it at the time, this is one of those. Note the spectacular leaning tree in the centre!

I'm loving this run of cold weather, run being the operative word because I love going out running in it! Yesterday morning it was minus 7C with freezing fog and hoar frost, so my morning run was like a CGI wonderland. I know most people think I must be mad, but you're the ones missing out on a magical experience :)
15.01.13 - Still Waters

The last gasp of the sun before it dipped behind a low bank of cloud yesterday afternoon. I was walking Mr Willis on this bank, a father and his young son were walking their's on the opposite bank, you can just see them near the centre of the shot.

Thanks for the comments on my big winter pano yesterday. It is still cold here, minus 7C this morning, but no more snow, yet :)
14.01.13 - Winter has Arrived

The forecast snow arrived overnight, not a lot, but enough to create a winter wonderland in Boultham Park. This is a 3 shot photomerge panorama, comprising almost 180 degrees of view. Hopefully the snow will remain long enough for me to get a lot more proper Winter photos.
19.01.13 - Snowman

Just another grey day, so instead of another landscape here is the snowman I made in our back garden. :)
